In response to the ever-growing need to protect the environment – and especially the marine ecosystem – the Yacht Club of Greece (YCG) and Pantaenius Yacht Insurance, have entered into a strategic partnership, aiming to inform, raise awareness and promote sustainable practices in sailing.

The initiative of the two organizations was presented in the context of the award ceremony of the 33rd YCG Nautical Week, officially marking the start of a three-year program of joint actions and educational workshops with a central focus on sustainable and responsible sailing. In this context, it was decided that environmental criteria would apply to competitions organized by YCG, such as the recently concluded Nautical Week and the historic "Hydra" race. These criteria will be communicated to the participants in good time.

THE FIRST SUBSTANTIALS STEPS WERE TAKEN AT THE START OF THE COLLABORATION

100 reusable thermoses were distributed to participants, with the aim of reducing plastic consumption and the environmental footprint of the events.

Other relevant initiatives will follow soon. Through this collaboration, YCG and Pantaenius aim to inspire both the sailing community and the wider public to adopt habits that respect the environment, without depriving them of the joy of the sea and the sport it offers.

As distinctively stated in their shared vision: "We can all respect the sea and its organisms and are obliged to do so. It is our duty to hand over to future generations a marine ecosystem that is healthier and richer than the one we received." By participating in this journey that is just beginning, with simple but essential steps we can enjoy our passion for the sea with respect for the environment, and show the way to future generations.
